Coach: Ian Sheehan
Rank: Purple Belt under Victor Estima
Coach Ian started his Jiu Jitsu journey while stationed with the military in Japan. A life-long martial artist, at 34 he had never trained Jiu Jitsu, but attended his first class to provide support to the professor of his sons’ class. He was quickly drawn to the complexity of the sport and it didn’t take long for him to see the value Jiu Jitsu brings to people’s lives. After training in Japan for over two years, Ian moved to the U.K. and shortly thereafter started training under Professor Estima. It was at Gracie Barra Nottingham where he developed a deep love and commitment to Jiu Jitsu. The values and beliefs of Master Carlos Gracie Jr. and the leadership of Professor Estima have inspired Coach Ian to devote his life to sharing Jiu Jitsu.
After retiring from the military in 2018, Coach Ian was able to fully invest his time to teaching and coaching Jiu Jitsu. In June 2018, he opened Gracie Barra Newmarket. In addition to leading a Jiu Jitsu group on nearby RAF Lakenheath, Ian continues to train with some of the biggest names in the sport. Dedicated to bringing his students the best Jiu Jitsu has to offer, he never misses a chance to expand his knowledge. Coach Ian is also an active competitor and travels around the world competing and coaching his students .
